Blog Entry 123 of 123 comments about anything
My blog will be a place where I can write about anything and have fun. It may be about politics, life, food, or anything that my mind takes me to. I don't claim to be an expert on anything. I obtain my information from various places and what I write will be my feeling and opinions at that time. I am retired and have 66 years of life behind me. This includes military service, 45 years of experience in the working world, and married life.

Walgreens mystery structure
Contributed by: Tom Treloar   on 1/7/2009

A couple of years ago Walgreens built a new store on the SW corner of S. Federal Blvd and W Florida Ave. As they were erecting the building they were building another strange structure on the corner of the lot. At that time I wondered what that structure would be? The building was finished with the strange structure and the store opened.

This structure just has four legs, four windows and a roof. It offers no protection from the sun, wind or snow. It just stands there and makes me wonder why did Walgreens spend money to erect this structure? I am not a building expert, but I would guess that it had to cost between twenty and fifty thousand dollars.

It also gives my imagination a chance to speculate. Maybe it was meant to go on the top of the building and it exceeded the cities height limitation so they just stuck it on the corner of the lot. It reminds me of a watchtower you see in prisons or borders. Maybe the secret police jumps out if a shoplifter bolts out of the front door. Maybe they just stuck it there so people like me would ask about it. If that is the case, it worked.

Walgreens is building another new store on the SE corner of W Alameda and S. Federal Blvd. This is just thirteen blocks north of the W Florida store. Sometimes I think Walgreens is competing with Seven-Eleven, put a store on every corner. Anyway, this new store does not have a mystery structure. I am still wondering, what is the purpose of that mystery structure?

Hmmm...maybe stand up there with stilts? I love you discipline to post your photos individually! I'm notorious for being late...I just can't do it - to each their own :)

There is no floor. You can see the roof from the ground below it.

I wonder, can you just go and hang out up there? Maybe I'll try to go read of book there sometime...or better yet, put on a mime show.
