Recently my wife (previously known as the Dream Squelcher) informed me that she was going to start her own business. Immediately I thought of
Julie Aigner-Clark, founder of Baby Einstein, or Sheri Schmelzer founder of Jibbitz (that crap the kids snap into their Crocs), or
Jenna Jameson.
The first question I asked her was, "Please tell me we do not have to paint your car pink?"
No, she was not going sell her soul to Mary Kay Cosmetics. Whew.
"Amway?"
"No."
"Tupperware?"
"No."
"Trafficking illegal immigrants?"
"Just stop."
"Lumberjack?"
"I said STOP."
Wow, the stress of the new business was already getting to her.
After 15 years of marriage I knew that the look in her eyes meant it was time to give this subject some serious thought and she needed my undivided attention.
She took a deep breath and said, "OK, the first thing we need to do is..."
Hey, wait a second, who's going to watch our son? Will she need a home office? Can I give Fascinations my two weeks notice? If she needs an assistant can I do the interviews, mid 20's, blonde, blue eyes, and he's got to be athletic. How is this going to effect our current spending habits? More importantly, MY spending habits.
Spending habits. This reminded me that I needed to track down a few bottles of Orin Swift's 2005 The Prisoner from Napa Valley. Some friends introduced us to this bottle when they came to our house for dinner. Immediately the bouquet told me that this was a very special wine. The aroma was then complemented by wonderful smoky-vanilla flavors, followed by a rich plum and blackberry finish. It is a blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Carbono (whatever the hell that is).
Keeping my revised spending habits in mind, I did some research and found Arvada Ridge Liquor (51 st and Kipling) lists it for $37.49 a bottle, Applejack $35.99, and the Westminster Total Beverage is the winner at $31.89. Thirty plus dollar bottles of wine are the extreme limit of my price range, but with Thanksgiving and the holiday season right around the corner, I highly recommend grabbing a bottle to treat yourself or to give as gift.
"...so, it'll be rough for the first few months but should settle down after that," she finished.
I just hope it's not long before my wife's name is associated with likes of Julie, Sheri, and Jenna... well, maybe not Jenna.
