At church Sunday, my friend Doug told me that he was visiting a friend at a nursing home in Denver and was surprised to meet his room mate who turned out to be the Rev. Charles Blair. I had not heard of Rev. Blair for years.
He was the very popular pastor of Calvary Temple on University and Alameda.
Bob and I loved visiting there when we were young. They had many of the great southern gospel groups there at the church. We first heard the Blackwood Brothers there, also the Cathedrals, Doug Oldham, the Happy Goodmans and other groups.
We loved these gospel groups and enjoyed the concerts so much. Calvary Temple was about the only church big enough to hold the crowds that would come, usually on a Saturday night.
Charles Blair was a very interest preacher and had a huge following but he somehow managed to get himself in trouble, alledgedly by trying to start other businesses that the church could not afford. I am sure he did not intend to hurt anyone but many people alledgedly lost thei savings when they invested with him and his projects, which were all good ideas that would have helped seniors if successful.
We were sorry to see all of this happen but I still remember the great times at CAlvary Temple when they hosted the gospel singing groups and I was glad to hear about Rev. Blair after all this time. I hope he is doing well.
