I like living in Arvada.I am a member of Trinity Baptist Church and have many good friends there.I lived in the same house in Denver until I married, so as you can see, I am a native. My husband and I adopted 2 Korean sons who are now adults, 1 is a State Patrol Sgt., the other is an upholsterer. My husband died Sept.1st,2005. My family is a real blessing to me.I will probably write most about them, especially my great grandchildren (3)

Ah, Christmas!

There is really nothing like the Christmas season to remember all of the past holiday celebrations. When I was little, Christmas was centered mostly on the church programs at the old Mt Olivet Baptist Church. How scared I was when I had to " say my piece" in the childrens program. I was so shy and standing in front of a crowd and speaking my poem was terrifying. I just knew I would forget every word. There was no getting out of it though, not with MY mother. She loved it.
When the Christmas program was over, all the kids got a bag of candy as we went out the door. That was so exciting to kids who never had much. There would always be cream filled chocolate drops, hard ribbon candy and hard candy with soft centers. I loved them all!
On Christmas Eve, mom would have us all go out into the yard and watch for the airplane that always flew over Denver with a lighted cross on it. We never missed it.
Even though we didn't have much money, mom always managed to give us a fun Christmas and a toy that we really wanted. Sometimes my brothers would make the toys. I remember a little table and chairs that one of them made for me in wood shop. It was special to me.
When Bob and I adopted our 2 boys, we decided to do something different one Christmas, so we loaded up a tree, decorations, food and gifts and went to Estes Park where we rented a cabin for about 4 days. It was a beautiful place and the weather was nice enough for some hiking during the day. On Christmas morning we opened gifts. The kids had plenty of time to play with their stuff without the interuption of television or visitors and we were able to enjoy our family in the peace of the mountains.

I love the tranquil Christmas getaway idea, but would probably nix the loading up the tree part.
