Blog Entry 91 of 122 Gladys Mercier, Arvada.
I like living in Arvada.I am a member of Trinity Baptist Church and have many good friends there.I lived in the same house in Denver until I married, so as you can see, I am a native. My husband and I adopted 2 Korean sons who are now adults, 1 is a State Patrol Sgt., the other is an upholsterer. My husband died Sept.1st,2005. My family is a real blessing to me.I will probably write most about them, especially my great grandchildren (3)

There is always hope

Hope House in Arvada is a place where unwed mothers can stay until they are able to train for a job and become self supporting. The girls are able to keep their children with them there and know that they are well cared for while they are training for a job.

The home is beautifully decorated and very comfortable, thanks to the dedicated people that run the place and all of the volunteers who give of themselves to help the young girls and their children.

I attended a Wassail Toast to Christmas at the Arvada Center last week sponsored by Denver Wire Rope Company for the benefit of Hope House.
I was really impressed with the work that went into making this such a special night. The tables were decorated with lots of red and in the center of each was a round globe made of ice with a candle in the top!

Some of the residents sang for us and some told of how much Hope House has meant to them when they were without hope. There were lots of tears in the audience.

The dinner was very good.

It is a Christian organization. The girls are taught a whole new way of life that will bring them close to God and help them to know that Someone cares for them.
There was a silent auction and also a live auction. It was fun to place bids until I saw how many people were outbidding me! Really though, I was glad to see the prices go up for the benefit of Hope House.I was not able to stay for the live auction, but I am happy for whoever got the 2 puppies. They were so cute.
Thank you to Denver Wire Rope and all of those who made this evening so special.
