Blog Entry 10 of 30 Musings and Misc nonsense
I just finished up my degree in Business/Marketing (big smile), February 2008. I know I'll need to replace all the great discussions from classes and hope to do that here.. and the occasional rant. Personally, I have a first new grandchild, one 19 yr old left at home... and enjoy online card games.. poker, spades, hearts, euchre.. Oh yeah, I live in Arvada.

What a grandchild means...
Contributed by: Paula Dunbar   on 1/27/2008

I never knew I would have this love for this child.. I thought.. the love of my children couldn't be improved upon.. but not by much than that of a grandchild. It seems... the love of a grandchild goes almost even deeper... It's just different I guess. I love my new granddaughter So Much...

I also didn't foresee how I would feel about her other grandmother..It seems to be a contest.. I'm really not into contests.. Everyone should just know what's right. And be fair. Boy, am I naive.

I found myself with great anger last night, after going to see a house that my "kids" are putting an offer on. Not knowing, her other grandma and her husband (whom I like a lot, nice guy) showed up too.. after the invitation for me to go see the house. (I'm a former realtor, thinking that I'm there for advice.)

The other grandma (the mother of my son-in-law, btw, he is great to me) loves control. She took over the baby right away. .. God's answer to babies... (Jeesh). I'm being adult about it, but I can't help the feelings I've had. Anger, terrible feelings... anger.

Addition: Now I look back and see I made this about me... lol. I guess there is just competition between family members when they care.. My daughter is lucky to have a mother-in-law who adores her and dotes on my granddaughter. This was a good lesson. Maybe I was tired on Saturday morning, it was early for a Saturday. Anyway.. I usually just have to think my daughter is lucky.

Edited out the part about insensitivity..

Thanks Bill.. I edited out some of that rant.. I realized later I was making everything about me, as it was so fresh. But yes, I'm sure everyone can relate to competition between family members..

Paula, insensitive is a good word. Maybe they aren't malicious, simply insensitive. Probably doesn't make it any easier but maybe that type of thinking could help. I'm not a grandparent, but in other ways, I think I've been in your shoes.
