Blog Entry 12 of 30 Musings and Misc nonsense
I just finished up my degree in Business/Marketing (big smile), February 2008. I know I'll need to replace all the great discussions from classes and hope to do that here.. and the occasional rant. Personally, I have a first new grandchild, one 19 yr old left at home... and enjoy online card games.. poker, spades, hearts, euchre.. Oh yeah, I live in Arvada.

A testament to a man's will...
Contributed by: Paula Dunbar   on 1/31/2008

The other night, when it was really cold in Colorado, I was expecting my parents to stop in at around 10-10:30 pm (they live quite a ways away) .. On their trip, they got a flat tire on I-70.. just east of Copper Mountain, heading to Denver from California.

now..

My parents are in their 70's.. my dad has emphysema..... not doing well. It was nearly a blizzard and extremely cold..

This is the testament to a man's spirit... This is a man who will .. to the end... be his own man. One of the bigger points of this is, they didn't call me. I called them to get an ETA. My mother answers the cell phone, nearly beside herself... "I think I have frostbite, I can't feel my fingers.... " She's holding the flashlight for my dad as he's trying to get the tire off. He can't budge it.

Okay, the thing is.. they have AAA. "Mother, call AAA". No, my dad says he can handle it. (I hear him coughing in the background... she's still going on about frostbite). Oh my lord.... I'm in tears at this point picturing this..

I told her I'm calling the State Patrol.. they need assistance. It must have been that that gave my dad the strength to get those bolts loose... He doesn't need help for God's sake. I called 911 and was transferred to the State Patrol.. who were great in saying they'd go look for them.

After that, the bolts miraculously came loose and my dad got the spare on.. but found it had no air in it... Oh dear! Another miracle... he had just purchased a portable tire pump a few months ago and was able to get enough air in the tire to get them to the next town.

This is a testament to my father's will.. determination.. and spirit.. Nothing will change him. He's in it for keeps... to the end.

I think I like your father. You didn't say . . . when did they make it Denver? Did you get to visit?
