Blog Entry 303 of 330 Father Knows... Something. Let's figure out what.
This is my outlet to share with the world all the things I've learned - and continue to learn - about being the Father to 3 young children. But I should warn you that my experience is probably NOT yours: my wife and I are in the process of adopting a sibling set of 3 - all 6 years old and younger - while in our 40's. We've heard that, "it keeps you young," but so far, it has mostly kept us tired... But like any parent, our kids teach us something new every day and I hope to share at least something here with you at that same pace. The entries will be short - time constraints will probably keep it at or around a mere 200 words - but as they say, brevity is the soul of wit. Let's hope I can create some brevity here. So if you read something you like, please leave a comment. If you read something you don't, please just leave. (Just kidding - I'd love to hear from critics as well.)

Putting my daughter first
Contributed by: Chris Stone   on 3/26/2008

When we moved into this place, my daughter was the first to have her room and furniture in place. Not that we're jaundiced against our boys or anything, I just imagine it goes like this: I'm looking out for my Wif, and she's looking out for her little girl (mind you - she's generally more harsh as far as correction is concerned, but I think that proves my point), so the priorities get funneled downward. So to speak.

Now that we're mostly settled in the new place, would anyone care to guess whose bedroom is the first to get even a single coat of paint, much less be finished and trimmed? If you guessed MY bedroom, then you're not paying attention: Daddy doesn't have a bedroom -- he's merely a guest in others' rooms for varying amounts of time ...

" M's" bedroom is mostly complete as it now stands: Two walls are painted "pumpkin" and the other two "Sweet William" - an obnoxiously bright tint of pink. They go together better than one might imagine they would, but I wouldn't want to try to sleep in such a room. Good thing I'll never have to, I guess.

The effect is completed with a wallpaper border of alternating purple and pink flowers, and I've heard threats that I'll have to hang yellow and pink baskets made of metal flowers from the ceiling. To hold her toys and stuffed animals.

Yikes. That's an engineering and design disaster just waiting to happen. Probably Friday evening - unless I have to collect the kids from day care. Which is a good bet: We had "pizza night" this evening and the leftovers are sure to last until Friday...

Chris Stone is a slightly different - hopefully better - father and man than he was yesterday...

Cool - here too. I always chose the Glidden Extra-Lead Double-Coverage base... (Thanks!)

When I was a kid my mom would let us paint and/or wallpaper our rooms anyway we wanted. I can't imagine what the next owners thought...
