Blog Entry 311 of 316 Father Knows... Something. Let's figure out what.
This is my outlet to share with the world all the things I've learned - and continue to learn - about being the Father to 3 young children. But I should warn you that my experience is probably NOT yours: my wife and I are in the process of adopting a sibling set of 3 - all 6 years old and younger - while in our 40's. We've heard that, "it keeps you young," but so far, it has mostly kept us tired... But like any parent, our kids teach us something new every day and I hope to share at least something here with you at that same pace. The entries will be short - time constraints will probably keep it at or around a mere 200 words - but as they say, brevity is the soul of wit. Let's hope I can create some brevity here. So if you read something you like, please leave a comment. If you read something you don't, please just leave. (Just kidding - I'd love to hear from critics as well.)

Just catching up ...

One of the things I enjoy most in this world is watching my sons start to communicate in what might generously be described as "an intelligent fashion." That is, they are both now talking in nearly complete sentences/thoughts and they're also paying at least some attention to what the other has to say.

For now, anyway. We'll see how this turns out as time rolls on ...

Just tonight - as The Binkster was losing privilege after privilege after stubbornly refusing to swallow part of his dinner - the two of them came to a meeting of the minds over the cutest conversation ever overheard while two boys were sitting on the throne(s):

D-Man: "Did Daddy eat your donut?"

Bink: "Yee-aah. My watch?"

D-Man: "I don't have it," (lifts arm to show the complete absence of time-keeping apparatus). "In room."

Bink: "Ate my donut."

D-Man: "No, I ate your M's" (which were held out as a reward if Bink would actually eat the food that was offered; they went to D-Man when he refused to do so.) (And yes, D-Man did consume the M&M's after they were offered to him.)

Too cute to be told accurately, truth be told.

Another interesting moment I've recently witnessed was when I watched my boys hit each other in the chest and arms for a steady 20 minutes and laugh themselves through the entire experience. And - being the oldest of 3 boys - this wasn't much of a surprise to me. The funniest part was my daughter's reaction ...

" M" is now officially (OK - tomorrow, to make it legal) 6 and A HALF! As such, she has taken on certain chores and has even been on "commission" in order to garner a wage that might allow her to save up for those things she wants. After all, isn't that how the real world works?

While she was doing her job as The One Who Cleans The Table, she also caught sight of her brothers hitting each other, laughing about it and enjoying it immensely. And she could not understand it.

The boys thought it was a hilarious use of their time and they probably could have spent at least another 15 minutes at it - had it not been their bath night. But the best part of that evening - for me - was watching " M" stand clueless, mouth agape, as she watched her brothers smack each other.

Why, it's almost as if she has no clue as for what she's in for ...

Chris Stone is a slightly different - hopefully better - father and man than he was yesterday...
