Father Knows... Something. Let's figure out what.
This is my outlet to share with the world all the things I've learned - and continue to learn - about being the Father to 3 young children. But I should warn you that my experience is probably NOT yours: my wife and I are in the process of adopting a sibling set of 3 - all 6 years old and younger - while in our 40's. We've heard that, "it keeps you young," but so far, it has mostly kept us tired... But like any parent, our kids teach us something new every day and I hope to share at least something here with you at that same pace. The entries will be short - time constraints will probably keep it at or around a mere 200 words - but as they say, brevity is the soul of wit. Let's hope I can create some brevity here. So if you read something you like, please leave a comment. If you read something you don't, please just leave. (Just kidding - I'd love to hear from critics as well.)

Ever since the kids moved in
with us I've been at least a little scared: on one level I knew we were embarking on a life-changing journey, but in a much larger sense I had no real idea of how much our lives had changed.
I know that sounds like a contradiction and those of you without children will absolutely see it as such. Anyone with kids knows differently...
After we completed our adoption classes and before our children were placed with us, I second-guessed each and every activity and wondered how "THIS" would change; I would fry up a pound of bacon and wonder if we'd get a single pre-teen vegan or a hoard of meat-eaters - which would mean I'd have to go to the 12-ounce package in the former or fry up two pounds in the latter.
It's always something, right?
And as we watched television - and one of our favorite shows is "
COPS
" - I wondered if perhaps the child's/childrens' experience would render it unwatchable. So many questions.
Then we got our kids, and I started reading. Specifically, I started reading about being a Father to a daughter and it was an interesting experience; the first book I read told me about how to be there for her and how to feel for her. It was a good book.
The book I'm reading now was written by a Doc and psychologist, and it's full of good advice and Bad examples. And the good seems to be good -- but the bad is especially bad. Which is more than enough to make me pay attention to what's going on with my Daughter.
As if
SHE
wasn't reason enough already...
