Blog Entry 11 of 30 Musings and Misc nonsense
I just finished up my degree in Business/Marketing (big smile), February 2008. I know I'll need to replace all the great discussions from classes and hope to do that here.. and the occasional rant. Personally, I have a first new grandchild, one 19 yr old left at home... and enjoy online card games.. poker, spades, hearts, euchre.. Oh yeah, I live in Arvada.

Getting Older.. Has Its Perks...*wink*
Contributed by: Paula Dunbar   on 1/30/2008

After I left a comment on an entry.. I thought.. You know, getting older has its perks..

The best one is.. outsmarting younger people. I'm not that old.. 46. By some people's standards that's young. By mine... well... never mind. It's all relative right?

So I'll paste in my comment to my son tonight as an example:

Just a side note that just happened... My son said, "What would you do if I was this tall?" .. standing on his 'tippie toes'... (this is a 19 yr old, 6 foot 2 young man). I said.. I think it would completely change how I do everything each day... My life would change immensely..It would never be the same.. (with a serious face) *he smiled* ... *still smiling*

That is typical of our banterings. I love that he challenges me and I have a smart alek (I had a better word) comment to give him.. If nothing else, it makes him think. I know the male mind at this point., after having a son all these years to challenge me. I can talk like he does... Whattup man? lol.

The benefit to getting older is having experience... and seeing a bigger picture than they might have. We can see the ridiculousness of some of their comments.. and I, personally, like to take advantage of it. It's fun.. and they think so too.. (my son does).

But don't get me wrong. I learn a lot from my son about cars, good programs on TV, technology.. he teaches me a lot. But when it comes to life matters.. I've got him there.

We all still learn as we go along, no matter the age. But if everyone would learn from each other and not take everything so seriously, we'd all get along so much better. There are fun ways to teach young people these things.. and let them teach us...
