I see in the
Denver Post,
a front page story with pictures of cute little wind mills.
Story progresses to how the state is trying to get public support for the future tax funded transmission lines that will be needed for the customers use of this electricity.
Then on an interior page, another wind related article that tells of two ranches in Texas fighting over desire to generate electricity from windmills. Seems that the windmills will be as tall as 30 story buildings!! Quite a difference from the front page article.
The question is : When they relate costs, are they factoring in the total costs from source to user meter?
Existing providers paid for line costs out of profits, are we expected to fund new line cost from raised taxes?
It's no wonder that we are confused. Keep us in the dark and feed us bull ( you know the word):-))

Chuck, these are great questions, and I agree that the Post could have made a stronger effort to answer them in this story. Of course, the Post did just lose a couple of dozen reporters recently. So I'd expect more stories to have more holes in them. It's inevitable -- there's only so much a stretched news staff can do. That said, it would be interesting to see you or other readers try to get these questions answered. Journalism really isn't rocket science. Often getting answers involves simply making a phone call or sending an e-mail. You'd be surprised how easy it can be to get answers. And it would be fun to see the results of such citizen-journalism inquiries here. More and more, if we want full information we'll have to take responsibility for getting and sharing it. The way traditional news orgs' business models are going, they won't be up to the job as much as we'd like, unfortunately. - Amy Gahran
