Blog Entry 5 of 13 The Seth Files
My name is Seth and I am the community journalist for the Arvada/Wheat Ridge area. Instead of trying to narrow my blog down to a specific topic, I figure I might as well just wing it and see what happens. And since this is my first attempt ever at blogging, I hope you will take the plunge with me and start your own blog.

Here's to trying new things
Contributed by: Seth Davis/YourHub.com   on 10/10/2007

After recently writing story about an Arvada man, Brian Wood, who owns Next Level Training Studio in Wheat Ridge and is training for his first mixed martial arts fight, I decided to take a big leap and try my own hand at mixed martial arts -- even though the last time I participated in martial arts was when I took taekwondo class for about a month when I was 16.

I attended my first training session Oct. 9 and learned some great basic techniques from instructor Jay Wymer. I kind of surprised myself by making the jump from watching mixed martial arts fights to getting involved in the sport, but I'm looking forward to getting in top shape and becoming the toughest person in the YourHub.com office (don't tell anyone, but I like to think I already am).

If you have recently tried something new and would like to try your hand at writing about it, this is the place to do it. I like to learn about things I have never personally experienced from people who have done them, so don't feel shy about sharing your stories. Maybe you took the trip to Italy that you've been putting off for too long, or maybe you quit your job at a big company to open your own clothing store -- these are they kinds of things that make for interesting reading and even teach lessons to others.

If you need help or advice about telling your story, I'll be glad to talk to you. You can reach me at 303-954-2457 or daviss@yourhub.com.

After browsing the site the past week, here are some stories from your neighbors in Arvada and Wheat Ridge that I recommend you read when you have some spare time:

Micheal Gieger recounts how the eighth-grade Arvada Bulldogs won their sixth straight game.

Gladys Mercier talks about how much she enjoys it when her blogs are in print and says she will keep it up even if they aren't in the paper as often.

Two of my favorite recent blogs that I'd like to remind people of are Mike Keleman's ghoulish blog about a trip to Missouri, which should get you in the mood for Halloween, and David Cooper's recollection of his one-night journey through hole-in-the-wall bars in Arvada and Wheat Ridge.

These are just a few of the great blogs and stories that people from your community post on YourHub.com. I hope you'll take the time to browse around and read them all, and you are more than welcome to register and begin posting your own stories.

I missed seeing you blogging! Granted, the whole missing head thing is a little bit disturbing. Question: Will you be as tough as Chuck Norris? You know, outer space exists because it’s afraid to be on the same planet with Chuck Norris.
