After a week spent paying close attention tonews from the Arvada-Wheat Ridge area, I can say with some authority that"eventful"might be an understatementwhen describingthepast week.
The
March 5 car chase through both cities and the subsequent crash in Wheat Ridge had many of the elements of a Hollywood action film. I'm sure it was a frightening experience for those who witnessed the scene or who had children in the schools that were locked down until the suspect was caught.
A Jeffco judge ruled that Rolo the dog, who was accused of being a menace to the Arvada neighborhood in which he lived,
will not face the death penalty. Rolo's owner said she plans on moving out of the neighborhood because she fears for his safety. While everything has been settled in a court of law, this eight-month-long ordeal still seems to have left unsettled emotions in the community.
And two Arvada schools, Faith Christian and Ralston Valley, are continuing their dominant seasons in the high school basketball postseason. Each school's boys and girls teams have advanced to the Sweet 16, so I'm looking forward to seeing if they can go all the way. I read in the
Rocky Mountain News' prep coverage that Faith Christian's boys team is outscoring its opponents by an average of 29 points per game, and the team has a 47-2 record over the past two seasons. I guess we'll find out if those gaudy numbers equal another championship for the Eagles.
If you feel like writing about your reactions to these stories from your community -- whether it's to say what you think should have happened with Rolo, give an eyewitness account of the car chase or voice your support for the Arvada basketball teams -- you can do it by

And if you're a parent who will be at the basketball games, why not take some photos and interview some of the players? We love to read sports parents' coverage of their kids' games.
