Blog Entry 5 of 214 Robin's Just Saying...
Yeah, it's true, I'm a Parker resident. Is there a support group? NO?! Then this blog will have to do. I've lived here just long enough to raise my kids to a point very close to independence, but I realize that in some resident's books, I'm a newbie. Seen changes? Me too. Love/Hate relationship with growth? I'm so there. Long ago in a place far, far away (Pre-Big Box Parker--P.B.B.P.) I escaped the smog of the big city and moved here. Over time I lost touch with many friends who considered a trip to Parker as exciting-and long--as an excursion to Kansas. (Your moving where?) These days, we're a charming little burg, close-in to the big city. We've got Parker Days, Carriage Parades, and that logo with the lights from mainstreet (guess we can't change those now, right?). Yes, it's a wonderful place to live, but it doesn't feel like Kansas anymore, does it Toto? My musings will cover this topic, naturally--this wacky town can practically write a gal's column for her! But I have a habit of digressing...so I may talk about kids, politics, movies, food, my dogs, or the latest version of the Main St. Round-A-Bout (It's like living in a carnival!!). Check in now and then to see what's up. And let me know what you think!! I LOVE feedback...but be nice. I may be opinionated, but my mother taught me good manners.

Go Prepared to Vote!!

Did you vote early? More of a challenge than you expected, I'd bet. My husband and I passed it up twice due to long lines, then, desperate to avoid election day backlog, we trekked to the Franktown Fire Station in Pradera, even though we live right down the street from the Parker Fire Station. As promised by Uncle Sam's little helpers, the lines were shorter.

Over the next few days, the early voting activity was brisk, and on that last possible day, the overflow of cars parked in fields near the Parker Fire Station was surprising. This leads me to reflect upon two pointers for those who have not yet cast their vote.

First, take a cheat sheet. It is a LONG ballot, and if you are reading it for the first time in the booth you are nuts. You'll be there forever, so go prepared.

Second, we have nifty new voting machines in Parker. Do not be intimidated. Yes, they will take a minute to figure out, but there are friendly folks available to show you how it works and, once you dive in, you will find them very user-friendly. Maybe, even fun.

So, long ballot combined with new machines. Not surprising, in retrospect, that the lines were long. But you can do it! Just remember, in the good old USA, all you risk loosing is an hour or two of your time, in some parts of the world, you risk loosing your life. It's not just a right, it's a privilege. Go Vote!
