Blog Entry 67 of 82 Baseball, football, the Grateful Dead,Jesus and me
Could be politics, religion, music, sports, family life or anything in-between and outside the lines. (I refuse to say "outside the box," even if my chosen line means exactly the same thing) Chronologically, I'm 40. The consensus among those who know me best puts me somewhere between 10 and 13 in terms of maturity. I love listening to Jimmy Buffett, the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers and all acts Country (except the Dixie Chicks who offended my long-held,closed-minded view of decent behavior) I have deep, strong beliefs in all things I believe in and sometimes in things I don't. I pride myself in my contradictory nature even though it is a sign of weakness to change one's mind. I have been known to waver more than John Kerry talking about national defense, though I remain steadfast in my beliefs. I am prepared to argue to the death on one issue and one issue alone; Dickey Betts should be allowed back in the Allman Brothers. On this, there is no compromise. I believe in compromise in all other areas so long as the compromise includes everything that I want or believe in. In all seriousness, I am a lucky man, blessed with a wonderful family and an uncanny ability to not care about anything if the situation requires such. I believe that minds are like parachutes in that they have been known to fail their user, albeit with a slightly lower fatality rate. So that's me, or at least that's kind of me. I mean, I felt that way right before I didn't.

Nuggets beat Celtics!!!
Contributed by: Bill Prather   on 2/20/2008

Still bitter about the World Series? It's okay, I am, too. If the Giants beating the Patriots didn't make your day, how about your own Denver Nuggets beating the NBA-best Botston Celtics?

What can you say about a city that refuses to properly pronounce English? Really, it's pronounced "Kel-tic." What's up with this Sell-tic thing?

As it turned out, the Sell-tics couldn't hold up against the Nuggets.

Making the night all the better, my son Thomas and I were at the Pepsi Center. Even better, we saw some Boston fans escorted out by the local constabulary. It seems Boston fans (at least the folks sitting behind us) aren't very good losers. You would think they'd be used to it by now. Perhaps the last couple of years have fooled the denizens of Beantown into believing that they somehow come from a town that "wins."

You got your World Series, now SHUT UP! I was in line in the restroom when I suddenly realized I was surrounded by green. I listened to the conversations. I heard, "They keep talking about the Giants. Like they're Giants fans or something." There was also, "Yeah, four to zero. What's so great about Denver, anyway?"

The next guy answered, "I don't know. What's the deal with this city?"

Me, a dude from Baltimore, couldn't hold my tongue any longer: "I don't know what the deal is. Why don't you tell me. You moved here, didn't you? What is it about Denver that made you leave Boston to live here?"

The Bah-stun folks had no answer. Green Monstah this, friend!

The Nuggets had an answer. They won the game!

My son Thomas and I saw it live. It's one of those memories I'll take to Iraq. Thomas flew from Maryland to spend some time with Dad before the whole deployment thing and we saw the Nuggets beat the Sell-tics!

Tickets to the game: $56.

Watching an obnoxious Boston fan (redundant, I know) get tossed-out: Priceless!

Spending a night with my son, watching the Nuggets beat the Sell-tics:

Something I'll remember forever. Especially while I'm in Iraq.

Go Nuggets!

What is with us people from Balmore? We will speak up when needed or not.I guess it's in the way we were taught speak your mind, and keep your tongue sharp. I'm glad you are getting some time to do things before you leave.I finally find someone from B-more and poof! there you go off to serve your country and make my family proud.I have a boy I raised and taught in my Preschool when I moved outside D.C.He was 3 when he started and 12 when he stopped.I keep in contact with most of my former students and their parents.I got an e-mail from him last month saying he had just arrived in Bucca.I knew he was going,I knew he is going willingly,as I drink out of the Washington Capitals mug he gave me,every morning,I pray for his safe return.I will also pray for yours.Godbless and come back safe.Your family needs you and there are still alot more bluecrabs to eat.

A few years ago I was in Mexico, listening to this obnoxious British girl: "It's pronounced Jag-u-ar, not Jag-wahr. I wish the Americans would get it right. This went on for awhile until I finally leaned over and said: "Well, since Ford now owns the company, I guess we can call it anything we want, Limey!" Good game, unfortunately i fell asleep on the couch middle of the 3rd period....

We must have been near where you were sitting because I also saw the fans ejected. Good game though!
