Blog Entry 53 of 86 Baseball, football, the Grateful Dead,Jesus and me
Could be politics, religion, music, sports, family life or anything in-between and outside the lines. (I refuse to say "outside the box," even if my chosen line means exactly the same thing) Chronologically, I'm 40. The consensus among those who know me best puts me somewhere between 10 and 13 in terms of maturity. I love listening to Jimmy Buffett, the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers and all acts Country (except the Dixie Chicks who offended my long-held,closed-minded view of decent behavior) I have deep, strong beliefs in all things I believe in and sometimes in things I don't. I pride myself in my contradictory nature even though it is a sign of weakness to change one's mind. I have been known to waver more than John Kerry talking about national defense, though I remain steadfast in my beliefs. I am prepared to argue to the death on one issue and one issue alone; Dickey Betts should be allowed back in the Allman Brothers. On this, there is no compromise. I believe in compromise in all other areas so long as the compromise includes everything that I want or believe in. In all seriousness, I am a lucky man, blessed with a wonderful family and an uncanny ability to not care about anything if the situation requires such. I believe that minds are like parachutes in that they have been known to fail their user, albeit with a slightly lower fatality rate. So that's me, or at least that's kind of me. I mean, I felt that way right before I didn't.

Let's Get Nasty--Somewhere Else
Contributed by: Bill Prather   on 11/27/2007

Maybe it's just me. I like to think that others feel as I do. I wonder sometimes. Read a few of the comments left on some of yourhub.com's more "controversial" entries and it's clear that civility is lost on some people. Occasionally, decency takes a holiday, too.

Take the phantom "one-star" (coward). That's irritating! If you're giving someone the equivalent of an "F" have the guts to tell us why. There's also the person who disagrees with a posting and attacks the writer personally. If you don't know the writer, don't pretend to know his/her motives!

When folks post a politically charged entry, they (okay, I) expect people to disagree. Some vehemently. That's okay. Speaking for myself, that's what I'm hoping for. But some posters leave comments that are worse than nasty. I can take it, and I'm sure most political posters can, too.

But why do some people feel that it's okay to attack folks who have done nothing more than share their story? Did you read Mick Brungardt's entry about his experience with a "reality" television show? Some of the comments were beyond nasty. Many were judgmental and hateful. We don't need that here, and dare I say, yourhub.com was not meant for such vitriol. (in the interest of full disclosure, it's taking every bit of restraint I have and some I've borrowed, to keep from launching a full-frontal assault on the uncaring, cynical boobs who attacked a man with a disabled daughter for baring his soul. If you don't know the man, you have no business pretending you know his mind! Yes, I'm biased, and yes, if you're reading this, I'm talking to you! Come on by, we'll "talk." It will be fun!)

Meanwhile, I hope people continue to read, post and make comments on yourhub.com. But would it be so bad if the angry, nasty folks went somewhere else?

Writer's note: In the above entry the words "cynical boobs" were not my first choice. As I've advocated civility, alas, yourhub.com demanded it. Further, the comment, "Come on by, we'll "talk" has likewise been edited. I hope these minor changes to my original content don't take away from my intended message. Of course, if the offending parties wish to come by and "talk" please send me a message through this blog and we'll do so!

Great points. One shouldn't make any statement he wouldn't if he were face to face.

I was tempted to leave an anonymous five-star rating ...

Those one star cowards is a thorn in my side too. They could at least leave a comment.

Haters, haters, haters ... too bad hate isn't physically painful in the short-term! I'm sure I wouldn't have to put in many guesses to get the prototype of "cynical boobs." Oh, well, let it rot their souls ... What am I saying? It already has!
