Will 2006 be Denver's driest year?...
Contributed by: Rick Smith   on 10/2/2006

So far this year (2006), each month January through September has
been below normal in the precipitation category. So far for the year
through September only 6.06 inches of moisture has been collected at
the Denver International Airport. That computes to 7.15 inches below
the first 9 month normal. But even more significant is that the 6.06
inches is 0.64 inch below the 2002 total through the same period. As
we all can recall, 2002 became the driest year in Denver weather
history since records began in 1872. The normal precipitation for the
remaining months of 2006 is 2.60 inches. In 2002 these 3 months
totaled 0.78 inch with December 2002 only recording 0.05 inch. So for
the remaining 2006 months, the Airport would have to record 1.42
inches of moisture to tie the driest ever Denver year. Anything less
than 1.42 inches and 2006 would then be the record setting driest
Denver year. And since this is Denver, anything can happen.
