Inspiration (A True Story)

I was taking a bike ride last week, quite jovial and content, gliding softly through the lush trees and foliage that ran beside a creek near my home. I was listening to soft music, humming cheerfully to myself as my bicycle maneuvered through the park's winding paths, solemn and alone.

My mind, clear and cleansed was abruptly thrown for a loop when out of nowhere, I began pondering the events that had ocurred the past week. There were so many dour news stories and bleak hopes for positive and optimistic change through the media, fellow citizens, everything under the sun seemed to be falling apart in the world, but all I could do was think. Then, I felt as if I had been thrown into a vortex, my mind became a muddy river basin, as millions of images flooded my mind and overflowed my imagination with ideas of brilliance. As the water levels lowered, the images became more and more clear to me, as if a movie was playing in my mind, one that was both fascinating and indulging. I couldn't help but to smirk as the video rolled on, and while I may have been rolling along on my bicycle, my mind was immersed in another place, one in which I did not wish to leave.

I completed my eleven mile ride and returned home, the ideas fresh and invigorating in my mind. I bolted to my computer and waited impaciently for my word processesor to load. Once it did, I began unloading all of my ideas and watched as they formed an outline, one that put together could possibly turn into a novel.

Inspiration comes to people in many different ways. While dreams are most common, one can find inspiration from a conversation about organics, a cruise ship, your faith and even a cartoon character; the possibilities are endless.

When you are away from your computer, ALWAYS keep a notebook and pen (or two) handy, for you never know when you will be hit with a stroke of brilliance that could lead to a bestseller or nobel prize winner. Good luck, and keep writing.
