"Suite" memories with the Rockies

When Spring rolls around in Denver, CO, you're never quite sure what kind of weather to expect or what Mother Nature might have in store. One thing you can be sure of is the boys in purple and black will be headed home to Coors Field after weeks of training in Arizona.

Like many Coloradoans I look forward to the return of my Colorado Rockies. They have been a part of my family for many years. For as long as I can remember, spring and summer meant days at the ballpark with my grandparents, whether it was snowing like crazy or hotter than ever, we would eat Dippin Dots and enjoy the game.

I've sat in sections all over Coors Field, from the Rockpile, to the bleachers, to right behind home plate, to the first base line, (never in the suites however) but the ones I remember most were when we would sit what seemed like miles above the action in the nosebleeds. That didn't matter to my sister and me. We loved the game because of the time it allowed for us to be with our grandparents, and because the game meant watching the greatest team in the league.

Our earnestness to watch the game however, never stops at actually being there. Watching the Rockies on our TV at home is another family event that I will cherish forever. We have multiple pictures and autographs from various players, and of course from Dinger. I have watched the Rockies since their opening game in 1993, through their first playoff birth and last place seasons, I have seen the reason they are called the Rockies, because during ROCKtober, no team was more impressive. I have watched big names such as Galleraga, Bichette, Walker, and Castilla, more famously known as the "Blake Street Bombers" come and go.

I've seen Helton get to 2,000 hits and Tulo hit his first multi home run game.

The Rockies and I have been through a lot. I am now 18 years old and am attending college, but I still watch the games as much as I can, even if I have to go to a restaurant alone to watch it, or stare at my computer screen for 3 hours to watch it on MLB.com. I have even attended games in Arizona, where I go to school, and it's just as exciting as being at Coors Field, sometimes even more. Showing pride for Todd, Troy, Brad, Garrett, and the rest of the gang while sporting my black and purple is the best part. No matter where I am or what I am doing, I always have time for the Rockies. They have played such an instrumental role in the memories I have growing up, and I want to share that with my own family someday. This team has always been a big part of my family and they will always and forever be my Colorado Rockies.
