Where Have All the Birds Gone?
Contributed by: Ruth Kenney on 12/29/2006

For several years, my bird feeders have been well visited both summer and winter. It was especially alive with them the first week in December just before we had the snow and frigid temperatures of -2 degrees. I saw no birds after that until about 10 days ago I saw one lone small bird in flight. I used to also see larger birds in flight who didn't frequent the feeder. But now the skies are completely devoid of birds and I miss them not being at my bird feeder. I hope they are in the sunny south but since I have had birds other winters, I hope they haven't suffered from the cold temperatures of the early part of December or the unusual amounts of snow lately.

That's a good question, Ruth. It does seem possible that the weather has changed their habits.
