Today I read an article in Your Hub accusing
all Democrats
of being ignorant, evil or uncaring. Wow.
I am a proud Democrat and a Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service. Everyday I work with dedicated
public servants and veterans,
the majority of whom are
Democrats
. We are Democrats for many reasons. We believe in a fair days pay for a fair days work.
We believe in caring for our veterans and government workers, not just while they are in the service, but for their entire lives by providing life long affordable health care and a defined benefit retirement. We pay our fair share of Social Security, Medicare and other taxes despite the fact that some of our benefits are reduced in retirement solely because of our government service.
The accusation that we are evil doesn't even deserve a response, other than to say that Democrats are open minded enough to value a broad range of ideas and philosophies with out needing to resort to such demeaning statements.
To the accusation that we are all ignorant I ask: has the writer of the inflammatory anti-Democrat article spent a day at the State House? I have, what I witnessed there was smart, caring and passionate representatives on both sides of the aisle working in the best interests of Colorado and their constituents.
Yes, Republicans and Democrats see things in different ways and often argue, but this is the very spirit of America. It is our strength. Do we really want a one dimensional country where a single ideology rules?
To the accusation that we are uncaring I say this could not be further from the truth. The National Association of Letter Carriers, mostly composed of Democrats, is responsible for the largest one day food drive in the country, collecting over 71 million pounds of food this year.
We are one of the first corporate sponsors of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Every year, through the Combined Federal Campaign, government workers donate millions of dollars to thousands of qualified charities. That is where our hard earned overtime dollars go. Democrats not only care, we work to improve this country every day.
The key to the future of the country I love with all my heart is for each of us to take our vote very seriously. Get to know all the candidates by visiting their websites, going to town meetings or writing them a letter.
Choose wisely based on their qualifications, positions on actual issues and record of public service. I believe Congressman Udall CD 2 has served his constituents with a level head and an awareness of the needs of the United States.
Representative Benefield HD 29 has a strong record, is tough on immigration, cares about the education of all children and will work to provide affordable, quality health care for all Colorado residents.
I believe in Democrats.

The trouble with being the party of reason is that there are so many unreasonable fools.
