Denver's BaggyShirts reusable bags were chosen as the official "goodie" bag of the recent Social Business and Microeconomic Opportunities for Youth Conference, heldMarch 12th through the 14th, at the Four Points at Sheraton Denver Southeast. The conference brought together a variety of players to work through the current economic problems facings youth across the globe.Highlights of the conference included: a keynote speech from the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Mohammed Yunus, a mix of presentations from leading microcredit/enterprise players, breakout sessions intended on identifying and addressing the various challenges that youth face with regards to economic opportunity, and a youth microenterprise marketplace and competition.
As a social business, with the goal of addressing the triple bottom line of people, profit and planet, BaggyShirts' Jan Ramos and Dana Miller were invited to sit on a panel and share their mission. Dana dressed in a "bagmonster" costume and spoke of the over-consumption of paper and plastic bags that drove the duo to start the enterprise of making reusable bags out of recycled clothing.
