Ethical entrepreneurs open boutique in Olde Town
Contributed by: Emilie Oliver on 3/27/2008

Arvada - Lovely is a new boutique for women carrying brands that are ethically and ecologically made, such as Stewart Brown C&C California, Eco-ga'nik, Joe Jeans and others. The grand-opening celebration takes place April 5, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., at 7405 Grandview Ave., in the historic Olde Town district of Arvada. After 8 p.m., the party will continue at the D Note with D.J. CJ and Bobby C. The $5 cover at the D Note benefits Environment Colorado.

Emilie Oliver and Hallie Wastell are the two ethically mined entrepreneurs behind Lovely. These two young moms met through mutual friends and bonded over their love of fashion. Both long-time residents of the area, they agreed that Arvada could benefit from the addition of a fashion-forward boutique. As Emilie and Hallie began envisioning their ideal shop, it became clear that the integrity of the products they offer must meet the highest standards.

"We live our lives with social and ecological awareness. It is very important to both of us that these core beliefs be integrated into our business decisions," says Oliver.

The two set out to find products that fit with the mission of Lovely. Their criteria for ethically made apparel include American-made or fair-trade import certification. To be considered ecologically aware, the company must utilize earth-friendly choices such as organic cotton, silk, hemp or denim, and produce their products with minimal impact by utilizing low-impact production and coloring.

Oliver and Wastell utilize these stipulations as a basic yardstick while researching inventory for Lovely. Style, of course, remains paramount to these buyers. They know the beauty of a well-fit pair of jeans, a classic designer top or a dress that you want to wear every day. The brands available at Lovely are easy, comfortable and wearable with a refined sexiness. The price range is reasonable, with most items from $20 to $160.

Visit Lovely early on April 5 for first pick of the new inventory, light hors d'oeuvres and specials running throughout the store. As an added bonus for shopping moms, there is a kid-friendly play area.

Continue into the evening, dancing at the D Note Environment Colorado Benefit Party sponsored by Lovely in honor of their official grand opening. Environment Colorado is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. Their mission states, "We focus exclusively on protecting Colorado's air, water and open spaces. We speak out and take action at the local, state and national levels to improve the quality of our environment and our lives."
