Buyer's Pet Peeves- Remove Your Shoes
Contributed by: Jack Wahl on 10/17/2007

BUYER'S PET PEEVES

"REMOVE YOUR SHOES"

Probably 2 out of 10 showings will make this request. 1 out of 10 is actually legitimate.

If you are going to say that, the buyers and myself will assume the carpet is pure white and installed yesterday. You are highlighting the carpet. You have no idea how many times I have heard my buyers say, "Why did we remove our shoes, the carpet is getting my socks dirty!" If the carpet is not that good, you have just highlighted that in a very negative way! If you have dogs or cats, NEVER say take off your shoes.

As you walk around some of these homes, it's very apparent that the owners have not removed their shoes. Oh yeah, my buyers are really happy now.

I always wear slip-on shoes, but my clients do not. It's a chore to do this. Okay, now we want to go into the unfinished basement, the garage, the backyard. How are we doing so far as comfort level for the buyers. Their socks are now filthy, and they are not happy.

You need to make this tour of your home into a pleasant experience.

The best sign and the best advice I can give you is one that I saw recently, and I loved it:

IF YOU HAVE SNOW ON YOUR SHOES, PLEASE REMOVE THEM.

How good is that!!
