RRCC to Host Cultural Intelligence Conference

The community is invited to an Exploring Diversity in Education Conference April 11, hosted by Red Rocks Community College's Lakewood Campus, 13300 W. Sixth Ave.

The free conference will include a continental breakfast and lunch and workshops on diversity with a focus on this year's theme, "Retaining Diverse Students, Staff and Faculty."

Paul Gorski, assistant professor of education at Hamline University and founder of EdChange, will be the keynote speaker. EdChange provides training and activities for educators on educational equity and social justice. His newest project is Social Justice News Online ( www.socialjusticenews.net), a web-based compendium of news articles from around the world related to social and environmental justice, human rights and activism.

Workshops include "Retaining GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered) Students, Faculty, and Staff," "Making Feminism Relevent to the Hip-Hop Generation," "Tools for Respecting Differences," and "Recruiting and Retaining Diverse Faculty and Students."

The conference runs from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in the Community Room at the Lakewood Red Rocks Campus, 13300 W. Sixth Ave. To arrange accommodations for disabilities, contact the Office of Special Services at least 72 hours before the conference at 303.914.6733.
