The Arvada Police Department worked with the Pomona High School students to familiarize them with CPR and AED skills. All students at Pomona are required to take "Lifetime Fitness" in order to graduate. Adding the CPR and AED training to this class, is another lifelong skill they will gain.
On behalf of Pomona High School's physical education department, we'd like to thank Officer MaryMiklos and Officer Jeff Johnson for their time and commitment in helping our Lifetime freshmen classes gain knowledge on how important using an AED and learning CPR is in our daily lives. Without their assistance and generosity this unit would not have been taught. Officers Miklos and Johnson donated over 21 hours of volunteer time and influenced over 300 freshmen students.
The students were very appreciative to learn and understand a new skill they can use if an emergency is presented to them. In our test, one of our questions was, "Do you feel confident enough to perform or assist a person in saving someone's life?" We are happy to report that many students felt confident they could help until further medical assistance arrived.
We appreciate the Arvada Law Enforcement Department for allowing these officers to be part of the school setting and making a huge impact on so many students. We thank Officers Miklos and Johnson for their time and commitment providing students this wonderful connection and we look forward to your continued support and involvement with Pomona High School.
