Art Casts Its Light on Literacy
Contributed by: Melissa Swenson on 4/1/2008

Nick Giffin, an insightful 2nd grade artist at Coal Creek Canyon K-8 School, created a mixed media Alphabet piece using watercolors and crayon. Nick's piece was exhibited at the Jefferson County Public Schools Art Show at Red Rocks Community College. His painting was selected among hundreds of other pieces to be purchased by the Jefferson Foundation.

The Alphabet painting will be used in a campaign to promote literacy. Nick's art teacher, Mrs. Cathryn Bay-Fowler says,"Nick is a talented and thoughtful artist. He is very deserving of this honor." Thanks to Nick Giffin's handy brush strokes, the Coal Creek community is beaming and Jeffco's literacy campaign is shining brighter.
