Pomona students give back to the community
Contributed by: Nancy Milligan on 5/7/2008

Pomona High School theatre students presented a check for $560 to the Arvada Food Bank at the May 5 meeting of the Arvada City Council. The money was raised as part of a Pomona Catwalk Theatre Fundraiser, "Change for the Arts, Arts for a Change."

For several months, Pomona students, teachers, parents and community members collected quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies in specially labeled cans, raising a total of $2,200 to support the theatre program at Pomona. At the outset, 25% of the proceeds were designated for a local charity.

"The Pomona theatre draws on the surrounding community for their patronage and support," says Catwalk Theatre Guild President Anita Lobanov. "It's important that our students also learn the value of reciprocating this generosity. Through projects like these they learn the importance of giving back."

The students plan to continue the fundraiser during the 2008-09 school year.
