Arvada United Methodist Church is sponsoring a 24 hour O-RIM-PICS Saturday,
Aug. 2 to raise money for Nothing But Nets, a charity that buys mosquitoe
netting for African children. The event will feature a 3 on 3 basketball tournament,
a free-throw shooting contest for the area clergy, basketball contests, and pick-up games for all ages and abilities. Events will begin at noon on Saturday and include a breakfast Sunday morning from 7 - 9:30 a.m. Former Nugget, Walter Davis, will shoot hoops with spectators on Sunday morning.
All proceeds collected will go to Nothing But Nets, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation to stamp out malaria in Africa. Ten dollars will buy an insecticide-treated bed net for an African family to protect them from mosquitoes. Every day 3000 children die from malaria in Africa.
To register a 3 on 3 team, call the church at 303 421-5135. Team entrance fee is $10, which will buy one net. High school teams should be coed. Tournaments will be set up for all ages and abilities. The public is invited to watch as well as play the entire weekend. Arvada United Methodist Church is at
6750 Carr.
