O-RIM-PICS hopes to save children from Malaria

Arvada United Methodist Church is sponsoring a 24 hour O-RIM-PICS Saturday,
Aug. 2 to raise money for Nothing But Nets, a charity that buys mosquitoe
netting for African children. The event will feature a 3 on 3 basketball tournament,
a free-throw shooting contest for the area clergy, basketball contests, and pick-up games for all ages and abilities. Events will begin at noon on Saturday and include a breakfast Sunday morning from 7 - 9:30 a.m. Former Nugget, Walter Davis, will shoot hoops with spectators on Sunday morning.

All proceeds collected will go to Nothing But Nets, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation to stamp out malaria in Africa. Ten dollars will buy an insecticide-treated bed net for an African family to protect them from mosquitoes. Every day 3000 children die from malaria in Africa.

To register a 3 on 3 team, call the church at 303 421-5135. Team entrance fee is $10, which will buy one net. High school teams should be coed. Tournaments will be set up for all ages and abilities.
