Contributed by: Dianna Hemphill on 9/2/2008

Show your support for Ovarian Cancer - Friday, September 5, 2008

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and this Friday is NationalTeal Day. In conjunction with the national awareness efforts, the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance(COCA) is hosting a March on our state capitol.

The March will be on Friday, September 5 th at 11:30 AM, starting at the west end of Denver's Civic Center Park. The message of the day is: Know the risks and symptoms. Lives can be saved through early detection.

It's vital for all women to know the four classic symptoms of Ovarian Cancer as well as report them to a gynecologist immediately. It's also important to know that pap exams do not screen for Ovarian Cancer. The four classic symptoms include:

· Bloating

· Abdominal pain

· Eating difficulty

· Frequent urge to urinate

220 women in Colorado lose their battle with Ovarian Cancer and more than 300 women are diagnosed with this deadly disease every year. Fewer than 30% of Ovarian Cancer cases in Colorado are diagnosed in the early stages of the disease. To put things into perspective, the Breast Cancer five-year survival rate in Colorado is 89%, the five-year survival rate for Ovarian Cancer is 45%.

Please join COCA at the Capitol this Friday to show your support and learn more about this deadly disease. For more information, please visit http://www.colo-ovariancancer.org
