The Danger of Fat and Cholesterol: It's a Myth
Contributed by: Rob Delisa on 11/18/2005

Have you recently been told told by your doctor that your cholesterol is too high?  If you were like me, you probably instantly becames pale and felt faint and nauseated when you first heard this devastating news. The shock alone, was enough to set-off that first heart attack.

I was told by my doctor that my cholesterol was 259 and  that put me at 6-times greater risk for having a heart attack. I was given a prescription of Lipitor and told I would need to take it the rest of my life. Also, I better not eat anything that tasted good anymore. We all know that good, tasting natural foods are full of saturated fat and that will increase my cholesterol EVEN more, which in-turn will clog up my arteries then undoubtedly cause a heart attack! Gee, I thought I was so healthy. I exercised 5 times a week and had perfect weight and blood pressure. And at 40, I was still pretty young. My doctor assured me: Just take the Lipitor pill every day and everything will be just fine. Oh, except I WOULD have to have my liver checked every 3 months! Well, that was 4 years ago, and since then, I don't know that my risk of heart disease is any different, but I do know several other things:  One, I will never take Lipitor to reduce my cholesterol. Two, my cholesterol level has remained roughly the same in the last four years. Three, I eat as much saturated fat as I want and don't worry about it. Four, I don't have to worry about the damage some cholesterol drug might be doing to my liver. Finally, I know that doctors don't know everything and that mainstream medical opinions are greatly influenced by drug companies and dietary, imitation foods companies.

Initially, my cholesterol fear was offset by the fear of taking a drug the rest of my life. Common sense told me that drugs are chemicals and chemicals in the body every day ALWAYS have some type of undesirable side effects. Instead, I decided to see if there was a natural way to reduce my cholesterol. While, my search for a natural cure resulted in a variety of nutrition and diet recommendations, I also stumbled upon a website and a book that has forever changed the way I look at cholesterol and dietary fat. It also has greatly shaken my confidence in the mainstream medical industry.

I have learned that the theory of Cholesterol and Saturated Fats in our diet is the greatest health scandal of the century. While there is much, much more to studying the facts and statistics behind refuting this faulty theory, consider a few simple facts: Over half of ALL heart attack patients have either normal or low cholesterol. The correlation between cholesterol and heart disease in medical studies disappears after age 47. Dietary fat-intake has little or no effect on your cholesterol readings. Countless studies have shown no causal relationship to fat-intake and heart disease.  Countless studies have also never shown a causal relationship between cholesterol levels and heart disease. Reducing one’s cholesterol has never been shown to increase one’s life span.

Of course, there is much more evidence to have swayed my opinion on this than a few simple facts. If you are someone with an open mind and would like to learn more, I would suggest the link below to a very informative website. The facts presented in this website are not merely some doctor’s opinion. They are an exhaustive examination of statistics from the very same studies, which have been misevaluated and propagated by the interests of food and drug companies in the first place. If you find this evidence persuasive and appealing enough to get the full story, I highly recommend the book, The Cholesterol Myths,
