DDRC Harvest Festival Run Accepting Early Bird Entries

By Stan Dyer

Early birds can save money this year and help out a worthy cause by signing up to run the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center's Harvest Festival Run by July 10.

The run will take place Sept. 10 at North Jeffco Park, 58 th and Garrison Streets, during the Arvada Harvest Festival. There will be two events this year, both beginning at 8 a.m. The first is a timed, USATF sanctioned and Bolder Boulder qualifying five-mile run on a fast, flat course along Ralston Creek. The second event is a three-mile run/walk for those of you who want less strenuous exercise. The three-mile event does not count as a Boulder Bolder qualifier. The entry fees for both events are the same and both include a nice, long-sleeved T-shirt and a pancake breakfast.

This great event featured games, rides and pony rides in the past, as well as a fun opportunity to meet neighbors and interact with the community. This year, cash awards will go to the top finishers in both events. One hundred dollars will go to both the female and male first place finishers in the five-mile run, with the two, second place finishers receiving $50 each as well. First-place finishers in the three-mile run receive awards of $50 each.

You can sign up online at www.ddrcco.com, or at www.active.com. The Active.Com site will cost you $4 more for handling. Whichever method you choose, sign up by July 10 to claim the early bird discounts. With the early bird discounts, entry fees are $15 per person per event. Families of three or more people can sign up the whole family for only $35! After July 10, single entry fees rise to $20, seniors to $18 and families to $45. All proceeds stay in Colorado to help Coloradans. Packet pick-up for this event is at the event on race day beginning at 6:30 a.m. For more information, phone the hotline at 303-233-3363. I hope to see you there. I already signed up!

Special thanks to all past participants, and all who join in this year, but especially to the sponsors: American Furniture Warehouse, The Sooper Credit Union, The Ralston Creek Sertoma Club, Dungarvin Colorado, Let's Frame It, ABLE Colorado, and North Jeffco Parks and Recreation. Support the sponsors and let them know you appreciate their contributions to our community.
