We start the day after Thanksgiving, and finish decorating about a week or two later. This year the lights came on Friday the 30th of November, but we still have two trees to light. Hopefully we will be finished by Sunday night, first Advent Sunday.
We turn the bird bath in the center of the yard into an Advent wreath, and a other candle gets lighted until Christmas Eve.
The "Peace on Earth" sign was made by
Herman Dinges
of 68 South Zenobia Street, and purchased in 2002, because Herman wanted to do "something different". He always had thousands of lights that he put up every year, and his house could be seen for about 1/2 a mile away on Sheridan Blvd. Sadly, last year was to be his last year of decorating, as his wife passed away, and he did the best we have ever seen him do, in tribute to her. We are proud to dispaly this work of art, and hope it brings as much enjoyment to our neighbors and friends, as it did to Herman's
