Thirty years and still in love!
Contributed by: jim dunlap on 2/8/2007

My wife and I have been together forever, it seems. We met at our high school dance as juniors and it was love at first sight. That was in 1977 at the old Northglenn High School. We dated all through school and we graduated in May and were married in July of 1979.

We didn't have a chance for college because our parents were dead set against our marriage at such young ages. We packed everything we owned in a soft-top Jeep and moved to Gunnison. All we had was our love for each other and no jobs. I went to work for the city of Gunnison as a lineman while Julie went to work for my Mother's restaurant as a waitress.

We had our first girl named Niki in 1982 and along came Annie in 1983 only 13 months apart. Someone told us that you can't get pregnant while breast feeding. (That's a lie.) We moved to Crested Butte in 1984 because I went to work for Gunnison co rea. Big move for us at the time. We stayed in the Butte for eight years, when I received a great job in Vail as a lineman building power lines for holy cross rea.

The reasonI'm writing this letter is in 1997 I tore my back up real bad. I ended up having a triple fusion front and back. The surgery was not successful and has left me real dependent on Julie. Since '97, I have had two more back operations with no luck in curbing my pain. It looks like I'm headed for more surgeries. Julie is a great lady and she just keeps picking up all the pieces and putting me back together time after time. God through Niki has gave us a grand-daughter --holy cow, this is the greatest thing on earth.

Our love is stronger now than it has ever been. We will be married 28 years in July and I would not trade them for all the gold in Colorado. We just moved to Arvada so Julie can try to improve her job with Tyler Technologies. (I'm so proud of her.) In today's world, it's hard to stop and enjoy life (smell the roses). I hope in writing this letter will maybe get us a weekend away to enjoy our love for each other. Julie really needs to get away from the battlefield of life even for just two days will help.

I love Julie and have for a long time. It's hard to find peoplewho have been married as long as we have in today's world. I hope that when Julie reads this, a tear will flow down as it did the first time I said I love you. I love Julie and always will.

I hope you enjoy our story as much as we have in being in love.

Thank you
Jim Dunlap
