Steve and I met when he responded to an online personal ad I placed in 1999. We are both Wisconsin natives and lived in the Milwaukee area at the time. Steve was a computer programmer and I was a medical social worker. My ad was entitled Broadway Girl 2000 and he later told me that the name intrigued him, as he enjoyed theater and was looking for someone with similar interests.
We met at an Indian restaurant that he selected and our first meeting over dinner lasted about three hours. Steve was unusual in a first date in that hetalked
a lot!As a social worker, I feel comfortable about establishing a good rapport with most people and can converse about a variety of topics, but as we laughed about this later, that night as we lingered over dinner, I often wondered if he would ever take a breath! We didn't meet again for about three weeks as he was out of town temporarily.
We had an up-and-down courtship, mostly as I was a bit skittish about getting married again having been married briefly once before, and did not want to make what I perceived as another mistake. Steve gradually won me over with his charm and natural cheerfulness and ability to hold discourse on a variety of topics. We both joked that if we got married, we would always have lots to talk about.
Steve asked me to marry him on New Years of 2001 with a beautiful sapphire ring, which he surprised me with while on bended knee. As a result of a job change, Steve moved to Denver on March 1, 2004. I remember the day very well, as I said goodbye through my tears. We both knew that the distance would have a profound affect on our relationship and not necessarily for the better. I was happy for Steve's opportunity and he was excited about relocating to Colorado.
Through much trial and tribulation, I was able to sell my home in Wisconsin and join Steve in March 2006. We were married in an intimate ceremony in a beautiful Catholic Church in Aurora and have made our home in Colorado since then. We have spent an eventful year adjusting to each other as marriage partners and discovering what makes Colorado and the Denver area so special. We are only beginning to explore our new home, but have enjoyed learning square dancing, cycling and appreciating the natural beauty. We do still miss certain Wisconsin restaurants but enjoy discovering new ones in Denver!
Everyone who knows us refers to us as "the cutest couple." I am not certain, but I think they are referring to the glow we seem to shine when we are together. We laugh a lot and include others in our joy. We still have plenty to talk about!
