Paul and Jean Kelly celebrate 60 years of marriage
On 9/15/2006
Contributed by: Holly Hipp on 8/4/2006

Longtime Arvada residents Paul and Jean Kelly will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 15 with a family reunion. Paul and Jean met on a blind date in southern California. Paul was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time and Jean is a native of southern California. The young couple married in Las Vegas, Nev., and made their first home near Paul's family in Arvada. In fact, their first "house" was a two-room cottage with no running water that still stands today on the north side of 80th Avenue, just northeast of the railroad tracks (between Simms and Alkire).

Paul and Jean have many memories of Arvada over the years, including late-night streetcar rides home after shopping in downtown Denver, Arvada merchants (who also were the volunteer firefighters) running to catch the firetruck as it came through town on the way to fire calls and Friday nights at "the Dairy" in downtown Arvada for dinner!

After dividing the early years of their marriage between California and Colorado, Paul and Jean settled back in Arvada in 1968 and have been here ever since. They are the proud parents of five children. They also cherish their 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many wonderful family and friends.

Great story, Holly. It sounds like Paul and Jean have a special connection with Arvada.
