The fourteen members of Junior Girl Scout Troop #299 recently earned their Bronze Award, the highest award in Junior Girl Scouts. These fifth-graders from Lincoln Academy Charter School, Hackberry Hill Elementary School and Excel Charter School have worked for two years to complete all the requirements for this award.
The Scouts have learned leadership skills by earning the Junior Aide Patch and Lead On Badge. They improved their interpersonal skills through completion of the Communications Badge. Child development was studied during the Caring for Children Badge. Community service was also performed through participation in The Teddy Bear Project.
Troop #299 completed their Bronze Award by using their leadership skills, communication skills and knowledge of child development to plan and run a camp-in. Over eighty girls and leaders from six troops, representing Lincoln, Hackberry, Excel and Little Elementary were in attendance.
The attending troops included Girl Scouts in Daisy, Brownie and Junior troops, representing kids in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The Juniors planned a Luau event including a menu of Hawaiian foods, crafts of Hibiscus Hair Flowers and Sand Art, a scavenger hunt and Hawaiian games such at the Limbo. The evening program ended with a Sing-A-Long of new and traditional Girl Scout tunes, and a "friendship camp fire."
The girls then settled down for an exciting sleep over in the Lincoln Academy Gym. We are proud of

for the successful completion of this prestigious award. This fun and exciting event brought our local Scouting community together. We thank all the troops that attended our event and made our Camp-In a huge success.
