Three of Arvada's bravest made it through the grueling application process and will appear in the
Fired Up For Kids 2007 Firefighter Calendar. Fired Up For Kids is a not-for-profit organization that donates all proceeds received from special events and sales of Colorado Firefighter Calendar to The Children's Hospital Burn Center, which is committed to providing the highest standard of burn care to neonates, infants, children and adolescents up to 21 years of age in the Rocky Mountain region.
On Sept. 7, Fired Up For Kids held its annual kickoff party at Mile High Station in Denver. Dubbed "Denver's Best Girls' Night Out," the event raised money with ticket sales, calendar sales and a live auction for a date with selected firefighters who appeared in the calendar.
Last year, Arvada Fire's own
Nick Quintana received a record bid of $800 for a date with him. This year's cover model and Arvada Firefighter
Todd Sassen felt like he had to beat the record. Once the bidding started for a date with Todd, things got out of control. Three people were bidding against each other for the date. Todd then agreed to a date with each of the women and brought in a total of $15,000. Two separate dinners at an Arvada firehouse were later auctioned off. All totaled, the Arvada firefighters raised $19,000 for The Children's Hospital Burn Center.
The calendars cost $15 and are available through the Tattered Cover Bookstore and the Virgin Megastore on the 16th Street Mall. A limited number of calendars are available from the Arvada Fire Protection District headquarters at 6503 Simms St.
