Remember your pets this 4th of July

Arvada's Animal Management Unit says July 5 is the busiest day of the year at local animal shelters because so many pets are found miles from home after jumping through open windows or over fences. The reason: fireworks are incredibly loud to pets' ears and they often run away from home out of fear and get disoriented.
"This is an exciting time of year, but for pets, this holiday can be terrifying. Don't get caught spending the 5th of July trying to find your pets," said
Becky Robison
, supervisor of the Arvada Police Department's Animal Management Unit.
On the Fourth, leave your dog inside your house where it can be sheltered and feel safer. If you know your dog is afraid of fireworks, have someone stay home with it. Contact your veterinarian to see if tranquilizers are right for your pet.
Remember, the Fourth of July is fun, but take steps to ensure you and Fido can go for a walk on the fifth.
