Arvada police offers fireworks reminder
Contributed by: Arvada Police on 6/27/2008

With July 4th right around the corner, the Arvada Police Department wants to offer a reminder about fireworks in the city:

It is illegal to possess and/or ignite any firework in the city of Arvada. A person who violates the fireworks ordinance (section 62-43) is subject to a fine of up to $999 or jail time up to 180 days. (Juveniles are subject to a fine; they cannot be jailed on a municipal code offense.)

For a spectacular fireworks display, plan on attending the family-friendly event slated for the Lutz/Stenger complex on Friday, July 4. For more information about the event visit www.arvada.org.

The Arvada Police Department will provide a fireworks hotline for citizens to call and report firework occurrences in their neighborhoods. Officers will check a hotline Monday, June 30 through Sunday, July 6.

When To Call Fireworks Hotline:
If citizens want to report information regarding fireworks being exploded and there are no injuries or fire, they should call 720-898-6919. Following a recorded message, the caller is prompted to record as much specific information about the incident as possible. Designated officers will periodically retrieve the messages and respond to the incidents accordingly.

When To Call The Police Department Directly:
If a firework complaint involves property damage, it should be reported to the police department by calling 720-898-6900. If the fireworks complaint involves an injury or fire, callers should dial 911 to report the incident.

"Just as in past years, we are aware the possibility exists to receive a large number of firework calls, and we ask residents to remain patient with our officers if they cannot respond immediately to firework calls that do not involve injury, property damage or fire," said Commander Link Strate.
