Iraq Peace Vigil in Arvada enters third year
Contributed by: Dave Chandler on 2/19/2007

"Stop the Surge!" and "End Funding the War!"

As the war in Iraq heads into a fifth year, the peace vigil held every Saturday afternoon in Arvada commemorates its second anniversary.

On February 24, Colorado Citizens for Peace will observe the 2nd anniversary of the longest ongoing peace vigil in the Denver metro area. This special vigil will meet at the intersection of W. 52nd Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard from Noon until 1 p.m.

The commemoration will feature three keynote speakers who will address attendees on the southeast corner of the intersection under the U.S. and Colorado flags. The public is welcome to attend and also participate in the vigil urging an end to the American occupation of Iraq.

Speakers will be Colorado State Representative Sara Gagliardi, HD #27 (D-Arvada); Ira Chernus, Professor of Religious Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder and author of the just published book Monsters to Destroy: The Neoconservative War on Terror and Sin; and Dave Chandler, Green Party candidate for U.S. House of Representatives for Colorado's Seventh Congressional District in 2002 and 2006. Biographies of the speakers below.
