Troop 346 finds Arvada defines a strong community
Contributed by: Karen Holstein on 2/12/2008

In the process of completing their Citizenship in the Community merit badge, Boy Scout Troop 346 of Arvada investigated the characteristics of a "Great Community." Number one of a great community is its people!

Troop 346 learned that people who were active in the community tended to have all the other elements of a great community - friendly people, safe environment, participative government, reliable city and district services, affordable housing, reliable and variable transportation, superior education, fantastic arts and entertainment, and convenient shopping! The scouts met with Councilmember Azari earlier in the year to investigate local government services; they have visited the State Capitol and talked with Representative Gagliardi; many of them attended with their parents the recent caucuses; and they have completed more than 12 hours of community service.

To finish their merit badge, scouts Tommy FitzSimons, Marcus Holstein, Bryan Dunnewald, Jordan Connell, Andrew McGrath, William Funk, and Alex Bobroske prepared a slide presentation about the Arvada Community and presented this to the Arvada City Council on February 11, 2008, following Troop 21 who presented the Honor Guard to open the meeting. You can see their presentation on the Council streaming video.
