"I'M AN ALCOHOLIC"
On July 8 at 12:50 a.m., while patrolling the city, an officer discovered a white vehicle doing 50 mph in the 35 mph zone of Pomona Drive and Lamar Street. The officer then began pursuing the vehicle at an excess of 65 mph. The vehicle continued to accelerate its speed until stopping at the intersection of 80th Avenue and Chase Drive. The police officer followed the vehicle into the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex where he witnessed the driver parking over a white line, taking two parking spaces. During questioning, the man claimed to have had three drinks an hour prior. After failing a field sobriety test, the driver confessed to the arresting officer, "I'm an alcoholic." The car was subsequently impounded and the 35-year-old male, after receiving a summons, was released the next morning to his mother.
WD40 SPELLS OUT "EXPLICIT WORDS"
On July 7 at 7:32 a.m., Arvada police were dispatched to the 6700 block of Balsam St. on a criminal mischief report. The reporting party was a superintendent of various under-construction homes in the area and claimed that people have been trespassing onto the properties, lighting pit-fires with wood and cardboard in the basement and inoperably damaging the property. Apparently using WD40, the trespassers spelled out explicit words and lit the liquid on fire. Officers discovered there were also burn marks on the vinyl insulation. The superintendent informed the police that he has had to chase and kick out juveniles smoking marijuana at the residence before but did not report the incident. Nearby residents have spoken to police and stated that it is not uncommon to see teenagers playing in the area after hours. Various suspect names have surfaced and officers have been contacting area schools in search of a lead. Total damage done to the homes is roughly at $3,300 due to smoke damage and other vandalisms.
