Police arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of indecent exposure outside the Safeway store on the 9500 block of West 58th Avenue at 2:25 p.m. May 24. The man told police he had consumed several pints of vodka during the day and had engaged in an argument with a bar patron in the parking lot of the Red Lion Lounge, 9502 W. 58th Ave., during which he exposed his genitals in anger, police said. He also allegedly said he knew what he did was wrong, but that he used to do it on a regular basis when he was in high school, according to police reports. When told how much his bond was by Jefferson County Jail staff, he proudly shouted that the body part he exposed was worth $1,000, reports said.
A flower box and sprinkler system were damaged when someone drove over them in the nighttime hours preceding 8 a.m. May 27 in front of townhomes on the 6400 block of Welch Street, police said. Judging from tire tracks, the vehicle's driver tried to drive up some stairs, then reversed and drove over a sprinkler system and flower box in the grass, police said. The officer said in reports that the suspect vehicle is possibly an SUV because it left a tire print on a box that is about a foot off the ground.
The rear window of a 67-year-old woman's car was completely broken out between 2:45 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. May 26 at the turnaround located on the 6400 block of Pomona Drive, police reports state. The woman said she went for a walk around the nearby lake and, upon returning, found the window shattered and a golf ball sitting in the back seat of her car, police said. The officer reportedly drove around the area and was unable to locate any persons who were hitting golf balls.
A possible cross-burning attempt brought police to a home on the 6000 block of Hoyt Court at 9:50 p.m. May 21, according to reports. The home's 51-year-old resident allegedly told police that 20 minutes after she went to bed, she heard a sound like "two rocks banging together." When she looked outside, she said she saw a cross leaning against her tree and a thin male figure - approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall - running down the street, police said. The officer reportedly observed a 2-foot-tall wooden cross with darkened areas resembling charred wood leaning next to the house. The woman told police she couldn't explain the event, as all her family members are caucasian and Christian, reports said.
A 60-year-old man called police to report that he had been threatened by an unknown caller at 5 p.m. May 26, police said. The man told police that when he answered the phone that evening, a male with a young-sounding voice said, "We are going to shoot up your house tonight at 10 p.m., just wanted to let you know," and then hung up. The officer subsequently filled out a form requesting extra patrol for the man's house.
