Vandals destroy trees in Homestead Park
Contributed by: Susan Medina/Arvada Police on 7/18/2008

Vandals damaged more than $2,500 in trees in Arvada's Homestead Park (near 62nd and Fenton St.) in the early morning hours of July 15.

Six trees (including a Scarlet Oak and a 20-year-old Green Ash) were chopped down or branches broken by someone in the park.

Four of the trees were planted by Peck Elementary students in celebration of Arbor Day in 2005. One of the trees - a Scarlet Oak - was a memorial tree planted in 2005.

"It's difficult enough to grow trees in Colorado, so it's especially disheartening that someone would intentionally destroy these trees," said Craig Hillegass with Arvada's Parks Department.

Police hope someone will come forward with information on who may have committed this crime.

The Parks Department is offering a reward up to $500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) in this case.

Call 720-898-6900 if you have information about this crime.
