Arvada Police have a message for you: lock your car doors! During the last week of May (and periodically since), officers have taken roughly 20 reports a week involving incidents of vehicle trespass. Nearly half of these occurred because car doors were unlocked.
"It appears the thieves were just walking down the street lifting door handles," said Deputy Chief
Lynn Johnson
.
If you leave anything of value in your car, you're at risk for having your car broken into. The types of items targeted by crooks: cash, purses, wallets, laptop computers, electronics and cell phones.
Car break-ins are simple to prevent: lock your car doors and do not leave anything valuable in your car! If you have a garage, park your car inside and lock the car and garage. Never leave keys in the car, even when it is in the garage. If possible, park under a street light and always close windows completely.
Car break-ins can be devastating if your purse, briefcase, laptop or other important items are stolen from your vehicle. Make your car an unlikely target by leaving it empty of valuables and locked.
