(Arvada, CO) - Wallets, iPods, CDs, tools and checks were some of the items stolen in a series of car break-ins in the area JUST SOUTH of Lake Arbor late Monday, Sept. 15 into early Sept. 16, 2008
There were eight car break-ins reported in the neighborhood and another eight recorded throughout the city during the week ending September 21.
Some of the streets include:
6200 block of W. 77 Drive
6100 block of W. 77 Drive
7700 block of Lamar St
6400 block of W. 76 Avenue
"In reviewing the reports it appears that in nearly half of the crimes the suspects made entry into the vehicles through unlocked doors," said Commander Aaron Jacks.
Jacks adds that the pattern of unlocked cars being targeted has been repeated frequently throughout the spring and summer months in Arvada.
While locking your vehicle isn't a guarantee you'll avoid being a target, this step coupled with removing anything of value from your car can drastically reduce your risk of becoming a victim of a crime.
The Arvada Police Department has made a handful of arrests involving thieves breaking into cars this summer. While some of the suspects have been juveniles, there have been those who have multiple arrests for this type of crime.
"Officers working the overnight shifts focus patrol efforts to try and find those committing car break-ins, but we also need the help of the public to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods," said Commander Jacks.

My mothers car was stolen 2 times on 58th and pierce. Police didn't seem to really care. She found her own car, police came and never took fingerprints after finding evidence in the car. Arvada Village never notified tenants of the crimes. We were told "We don't want to scare anyone away. Also a computer was stolen from the office and noone was notified. Possibly everyones information was in the computer? Scary!!!! Maybe we should focus our tax money trying to cut down on all the drugs in arvada.
