Arvada officer involved in shooting


An Arvada police officer was involved in a shooting in the 9100 block of Pierce Street in Westminster just after 10:00 p.m. on February 16.

The officer - whose name is not being released at this time - was in the Westminster area following-up on an investigation related to a crime occurring in Arvada earlier in the evening.

As the officer made a traffic stop involving the possible suspect, the man inside the car left the vehicle and became involved in a physical altercation with the officer.

The suspect was shot by the officer during the course of the struggle.

The suspect - an adult male - was taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital (Central) for treatment. The injury is considered non-life-threatening.

The officer was taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital (North) for treatment for injuries occurring during the struggle.

Jefferson County's Critical Incident Response Team was called to the scene to investigate the officer-involved shooting per established protocol.
