Jeffco schools responds to employee arrest

Don Jenkins, the Chief Information Officer for Jeffco Public Schools, was arrested by Aurora Police for investigation of Internet luring of a child and attempted sexual assault on a child. The arrest stems from an undercover Internet sting operation conducted by the Aurora Police Department.

Jenkins has been an employee of Jeffco Schools since 1999 and became Chief Information Officer in 2007. He is on administrative leave. Because of the nature of his job as a central administrator, Jenkins did not interact with students as a part of his duties.

"This is devastating news for us on so many levels," said Jeffco Public Schools Superintendent Cindy Stevenson. "Accusations like these violate our organizational values and our mission of protecting children."

Jeffco Schools is fully cooperating with the Aurora Police Department in its investigation of Jenkins. Because it is an active investigation, school district officials will not have any further comments at this time.
